Why the Dynaplug Air?

I jumped on the tubeless bandwagon pretty quickly several years ago. Unfortunately, I was only half-prepared, and during a ride I punctured a big hole in my tire, which meant I had to put in an inner tube anyway…

Obviously not the point of a tubeless setup. I was done with it pretty quickly—not with tubeless itself, but with the hassle when you do get a flat. So I went looking for a tool that was fast, compact, and foolproof.

That’s how I quickly ended up with the Dynaplug Air. This one stood head and shoulders above other tubeless repair tools thanks to its dual action: pumping and plugging at the same time!

It also comes with about 5 small plugs, which in most cases let you patch a hole easily and super fast. Once I needed two plugs in one hole… Of course, you hope you won’t need a tool like this too often, but I’ve already had to use my Dynaplug Air a handful of times by now.

Tested on: various mountain bike tires, but obviously also works with tubeless gravel tires, for example…

Period: I bought the Dynaplug Air on June 30, 2019, and have plugged a handful of tires with it since then.

What I love about the Dynaplug Air

Quality and construction: despite its small size, the tool feels very robust and solid. Because of this, I expect I’ll never need to replace it.

Ease of use: plugging a tire for the first time will feel a bit awkward, but once you know exactly what to do, the job is literally done in seconds. The hardest part is often finding the hole in the tire—the rest is child’s play with the Dynaplug Air!

Functionality: once the plug and the tool’s air nozzle are deep enough in the tire, you can immediately blast the CO₂ into the tire. Then you just pull the tool back out and the plug stays in the tire. This is THE reason I chose this tool. No fiddling or fumbling, just straightforward tire plugging and inflation at the same time!

Compact: in the handy storage pouch, there’s room for the tool itself plus extra plugs and up to 2 CO₂ cartridges. The filled pouch weighs about 98 grams and fits in any backpack, saddle bag, or even in your pants pocket or jersey pocket.

What could be better

Price: you might balk at the price because this tool is quite expensive, especially compared to other tubeless tools..

First time takes some practice: the first time you use the tool, you’ll probably struggle a bit to push the plug into the tire. I did too, but after that it’s easy.

Spare plugs sometimes hard to find: without plugs, this tool is obviously worthless. The plugs can also be hard to get sometimes. Dynaplug is American—maybe that’s why. So it’s smart to stock up. I usually keep five to ten “in stock.”

Verdict

For me, the Dynaplug Air, is the best tubeless repair tool you can have. Thanks to its dual function, you’re back on the trail in seconds. Yes, it costs a bit, but the quality and reliability more than make up for it in my opinion.

The Dynaplug Air is suitable for any cyclist with a tubeless setup who doesn’t want to deal with hassle on the side of the trail when a tire goes flat.

FAQ

How does the Dynaplug Air work?

Place a plug in the tool and push it into the hole in the tire. Release the CO₂ cartridge when you’re sure the air nozzle is also in the tire, to immediately pressurize the tire. Pull the tool out—the plug stays in place, and you can ride on.

Who is the Dynaplug Air suitable for?

For bikers who want as little hassle as possible on the trail in case of a flat tubeless tire.

Does the plug stay in until the tire is worn out?

Yes, the plug can just stay in. I’ve already worn out entire tires with it without problems. I usually don’t even trim the plug.
